Finding food in cold temperatures can be challenging for birds. Support WVWA and pre-order high quality birdseed to feed your feathered friends all winter long.
This program is for all birders, including those new to eBird. It is an exploration of how eBird is used by birders and researchers alike. If you have ever wondered "what's all the fuss about eBird?" this program will address those questions and more. We will also go over how to enter data for the Great Backyard Bird Count, and how that project has been highly successful here in Pennsylvania!
Join WVWA Naturalist, Kristy Morley for an early evening walk highlighting the habits and adaptations of our nocturnal neighbors. We’ll wander from forest to field and look for signs of great horned and screech owls. Dress for the weather as we may be standing quietly in one place for a prolonged period.
Want to deepen your love of the natural world, notice nature’s tiniest details and spend time surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors? Then start keeping a nature journal! Join us for a monthly journal club and make this activity a habit.
12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Learn how maple syrup and sugar are made - a delicious and fun way to make science come alive! WVWA offers a very special winter event that is ideal for families, scout groups and anyone curious about the maple sugar process. Guides take small groups through the woods to see the tapped trees and then watch it being boiled into sugar. End your walk at WVWA’s historic headquarters for hot chocolate and warm treats with maple syrup. Tours last approximately 45 minutes. Last tour leaves at 3:00 p.m.
