  • Birds & Brews take Cape May!

    8:30am - 1:30pm
    Join us for our first ever Cape May trip! Cape May’s unique location, situated on the peninsula where the Atlantic meets the Delaware Bay, make it a geographic migrant trap. October is the peak of fall migration through Cape May and we hope to experience the full diversity of migrants during our visit. 

  • Craft Beer by the Creek

    Craft Beer by the Creek is back by popular demand! For this Sunday Funday we’ll have Roasted Liberties food truck, Sweetly Scooped ice cream, local craft beer, Stone & Key Cellars hard cider, and live music by Acoustic Keys.

     
  • Serve the Preserve

    9:00 a.m.
    Volunteers will help build and install 1-2 deer exclosures around restoration areas to help WVWA test the effectiveness of deer protection methods, which provide native species a chance to grow without pressure from deer browsing. The work will involve clearing the chosen sites of invasive plants and fallen limbs to prep the area, followed by fence installation (including setting posts, attaching netting, and building and incorporating access gates).   

  • Walk the Wissahickon

    Walk begins at 8:00 a.m.
    Online registration is closed. You can register from 7-8 a.m. on Sunday at Parkside Place! The weather will be beautiful - hope to see you there. 
    Take a guided walk on the 21-mile Green Ribbon Trail and support WVWA's mission of engaging diverse communities of people to protect, steward and enjoy the land and waterways of the Wissahickon Valley. Start in North Wales and follow the Trail along Wissahickon Creek for the either 5, 8,13 or all 21 miles. All of the walks are guided and you are bussed back to the starting point. 

  • Tree ID Walk

    10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    Online registration is closed, walk-ins welcome.

    Join Arborist Ken LeRoy on a tree-themed exploration of Armentrout Preserve and Camp Woods.  Located in Whitpain Township, the Armentrout Preserve loop trail connects with the Camp Woods trail.  We’ll visit the quiet woods of Beech, Tulip-poplar, and Hickory that are bordered by open fields.  We will observe the interesting dynamic of old field succession in various stages which are assisted by the wind and birds.

     
  • Nature Journal Club

    Want to deepen your love of the natural world, notice nature’s tiniest details and spend time surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors? Then start keeping a nature journal! Join us for a monthly journal club and make this activity a habit. 

  • Evans-Mumbower Mill Open House

    1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    Fall Mill Festival
    Celebrate traditions from times past at the Fall Mill Festival.  Take a tour of Montgomery County's only water-powered gristmill and experience many hands-on, family-friendly demonstrations including tin smithing, corn husk dolls, Lenni-Lenape story teller, and more.

  • 8-Mile Crossways Connection Hike

    9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Program is cancelled

    Meet and park at the Four Mills Barn. From there we will hike on the Green Ribbon Trail to Penllyn Woods, connect with the County Trail which will take us to Crossways Preserve (the halfway point) and then return on the same path to the Barn. This hike will show the connection between the Green Ribbon Trail, the County Trail and WVWA's Crossways Preserve. 

  • Hawk ID Workshop

    8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
    Have you ever wanted to sharpen your raptor identification skills?  Come join us for a classroom presentation followed by a trip to a local Hawk-Watch site. This class is tailored for hawk watching beginners and intermediate levels, but we welcome advanced birders to join and share their knowledge.

  • Photo Walk

    6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
    Grab your camera gear, or even just your camera phone, and join us for a photo walk along the first mile or so of the Green Ribbon Trail. This is a beautiful time of year to take photos that will be perfect for submission to the Biennial Wissahickon Photo Contest! Photos must be submitted by October 15, 2018. Click here to learn more.
