  • Birding Basics Classes

    This beginner level course of three classes concentrates on the basics of bird identification and techniques for binocular use.  Birding experts, Amy Johns and Jamie Stewart, will offer you individual attention and expert tips, as you learn to focus your binoculars on the many birds of the Wissahickon.

  • Serve the Preserve - Byrne Family Preserve

    Serve the Preserve is POSTPONED until Sunday, 4/10, due to weather.

    9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Help WVWA continue our restoration efforts this spring at our newest preserve – Byrne Family Preserve. Volunteers will remove invasive plants and plant native trees and shrubs. Please wear sturdy shoes for digging, and bring a shovel and gloves if you have them; otherwise we will provide.

  • From Soup to Owls

    Come join us at WVWA Headquarters for a delicious soup dinner and conversation about all things owls! After dinner, we’ll head out to Four Mills Reserve for a moonlight walk in search of Eastern Screech, Great Horned, Northern Saw-whet, and Barred Owls.

    Join WVWA naturalists on a tour of the 6,000-acre Mannington Meadows, a complex of wetlands and tidal waters in Salem County, NJ, which provides globally significant migratory bird habitat.

  • Attracting Bluebirds

    7:00 p.m. 

    Betsy Nutt, Penn State Master Gardener and member of the Bluebird Society of Pennsylvania’s speaker’s bureau will give a talk on the history, biology, necessary habitat, protecting and monitoring of the bluebird.

  • Maple Sugaring Festival

    We welcome walk-ups on the day of the event.
    Best tour times available are 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

    Learn how maple syrup and sugar are made - a delicious and fun way to make science come alive! WVWA offers a very special winter event that is ideal for families, scout groups and anyone curious about the maple sugar process.  Guides take small groups through the woods to see the tapped trees and then watch it being boiled into sugar. End your walk at WVWA’s historic headquarters for hot chocolate and warm treats with maple syrup. Tours last approximately 45 minutes.  Last tour leaves at 3:00 p.m.

  • Winter Members Mixer at the Woodmere Art Museum

    4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

    The Woodmere Art Museum is inviting WVWA Members and Volunteers to join them at the Winter Members Mixer.  Warm up, view their current exhibitions, and enjoy some refreshments while you mingle. Socialize with members of area organizations including Briar Bush Nature Center, Friends of the Wissahickon, Morris Arboretum, Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association, and Woodmere Art Museum. It will be a fun evening !

  • Fireside Frostbite 5 Miler

    Race starts at 9:00 a.m. SHARP

    The Ambler Area Running Club proudly presents the 17th annual Frostbite Five Miler, which starts and ends at the Wissahickon High School.  The field is limited to 1500 runners.  Amenities include chip timing, great post-race food from Fireside Bar & Grille, and long sleeve tech shirts for all pre-registered by January 15.  The race benefits WVWA.
