  • Wissahickon Excursion: Winter Birding at Mannington Marsh

    8:30am – 3:30pm

    Join WVWA Executive Director, Dennis Miranda, on a whirlwind nature tour of the vast Mannington Marsh in southern New Jersey. Winter waterfowl, songbirds and Bald Eagles await your discovery. This van tour will visit various access points along the marshes and fields of the Mannington Marsh. Boxed lunch is included.

  • Short Film Premiere - A Healthy Wissahickon: We All Have A Part to Play

    Join us for the Premiere of a new short film about our treasured Wissahickon Creek and hear from the filmmakers and a diverse group of experts about its history, the challenges it faces, and how YOU can be an active participant in making it a safer, healthier Creek for the generations to come. Come early and meet your neighbors, see the film, and join a panel discussion about the many efforts underway to restore the Wissahickon to improve water quality, the aquatic ecosystem, and recreational use.

  • Evans-Mumbower Mill Open House

    1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

    Open House & Trail Walk
    Tour the Mill, then take a guided walk along the former race that fed the mill, to locate the remnants of the dam in the Upper Wissahickon. The walk will begin at 2:00 pm and last approximately an hour. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots!

  • Family Friendly Hike with Susan Charkes

    10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Celebrate fall at Four Mills: enjoy the beauty of the autumn woods while sharpening your nature-sighting skills and encouraging creativity and curiosity.  Susan Charkes, naturalist and author  (Best Day Hikes Near Philadelphia; Outdoors With Kids - Philadelphia) will lead a family scavenger hunt on the trails along the Wissahickon.  A tree planting will follow. This short walk is perfect for families; all ages are welcome.

  • Green Ribbon Trail Race

    Race starts at 9:00 a.m.
    Day of registration opens at 8:00 a.m.

    Challenge yourself on the beautiful Green Ribbon Trail. This 5-mile race is ideal for both experienced and new trail runners. Runners will start at Parkside Place Park and follow the Green Ribbon Trail downstream and finish back at the Park’s pavilion for the award ceremony and brunch.

  • Serve the Preserve

    9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Serve the Preserve will be a continuation of the ongoing restoration project at Four Mills Reserve to enhance biodiversity.  With the help of volunteers, WVWA will continue to remove unwanted invasive species and replant with plant communities that were historically part of the Wissahickon Creek floodplain.  Wear work clothes, sturdy shoes for digging and bring a shovel if you have one. WVWA will provide tools, gloves and refreshments.  No experience necessary, we will teach proper planting techniques and the benefits of native plants.

    Don’t miss this slightly spooky but fun evening when old Henry Mumbower revisits his Mill to see how it is operating today.

  • Lecture - The World Needs Insects!

    7:00 p.m.

    Join the Ambler Arboretum of Temple University, in partnership with the Keystone Branch of the Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association and the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association, for a special lecture by Dr. Daniel Duran. Dr. Duran of the Department of Department of Biodiversity, Earth, and Environmental Sciences (BEES) at Drexel University, will present “The World Needs Insects!” focusing on how insects contribute to pollination services, natural pest control, nutrient recycling and countless other activities essential to our continued existence.

  • Wissahickon Excursion to Raymondskill Falls

    It was so much fun in the beginning of spring, we’re going back to see how the falls shine amidst the fall foliage of NE Pennsylvania!  Join Dennis Miranda on a day trip to Raymondskill Falls, the highest waterfall in Pennsylvania. From a height of 175 feet and coursing through three cascades, Raymondskill Falls is thunderous wonder to behold!  Visit the Poconos for a one-day getaway!
