    Back by popular demand!  Make your own take-home rain barrel.  Rain barrels reduce runoff, collect storm water for later use and save time and money.  Learn how to install and use your own rain barrel in this informative workshop.  Each participant will assemble a rain barrel to take home so bring a vehicle large enough to transport your new rain barrel!

  • Green Ribbon Trail Walk - Upstream from Swedesford Road

    10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

    Join WVWA Executive Director, Dennis Miranda, for a late winter hike of the Green Ribbon Trail by Swedesford Road. Explore the woods, fields and wetlands in search of wildlife and birds. Park by the Evans-Mumbower Mill.  Dress for winter conditions. A limited number of loaner binoculars will be available.

  • Maple Sugaring Festival 2014

    Maple Sugaring Festival 2014 is cancelled

    Due to the excessive amount of snow and ice we have all experienced this winter, we feel that it is not safe to host an outdoor program with the current trail conditions. 


    12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    Learn how maple syrup and sugar are made - a delicious and fun way to make science come alive! WVWA offers a very special winter event that is ideal for families, scout groups and anyone curious about the maple sugar process.  Guides take small groups through the woods to see the tapped trees and then watch it being boiled into sugar. End your walk at WVWA’s historic headquarters for hot chocolate and warm treats with maple syrup. Tours last approximately 45 minutes.

  • Fireside Frostbite 5 Miler

    9 a.m. start 

    The Ambler Area Running Club proudly presents the 15th annual Frostbite Five Miler, which starts and ends at the Wissahickon High School.  The field is limited to 1500 runners. Amenities include chip timing, great post-race food from Fireside Bar & Grille, sweatshirts if registered by January 20.  The race benefits WVWA.  Show your support by running or volunteering.


  • Winter Bird Seed Sale

    Order high quality birdseed that is appropriate for the birds in the Wissahickon Watershed.  Your purchase helps WVWA protect wildlife habitat.  WVWA holds a bird seed sale twice yearly - February & October. Seed must be pre-ordered.

    Explore the fields and woods of the Willow Lake Farm in search of wintering birds and raptors that call this natural area home. Join WVWA Executive Director, Dennis Miranda, for this family oriented easy hike. A limited number of loaner binoculars are available. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes.

    Take an informative walk with Bob Adams, the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association’s Director of Stewardship starting at WVWA headquarters at the Four Mills Barn.  Learn about enhancements on the Green Ribbon Trail and WVWA’s restoration efforts at the Four Mills Reserve.  View the EPA’s progress on the superfund site, and walk the new section of the Green Ribbon Trail by Cedarbrook Country Club.
