POP UP EVENT: Monarch Tagging & Release

2:00 p.m.
Join us at Crossways Preserve for the first ever WVWA Monarch Tagging Event! Monarch butterflies stage an epic migration from our area to Mexico every year. For the first time, WVWA will be participating in tagging migrating monarch butterflies to help researchers understand more about this spectacular phenomenon.

WVWA Staff will be discussing monarch life-cycle and migration, tagging monarchs collected from our preserve, and you might even have a chance to release a tagged monarch! You can also Adopt-A-Monarch to contribute to WVWA’s Butterfly Conservation Program.

Note: Butterfly tagging and release is weather dependent. Please look for any weather related updates on our website and Facebook page. Rain date is Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 11:00 AM.

  • Meet at Crossways Preserve - Parking and trail entrance on Cathcart Road, between Morris Road and Township Line Road
  • Sturdy, waterproof shoes are recommended
  • Event is free; Registration not required
