FAMILIES ASSOCIATED WITH EVANS-MUMBOWER
MILL
Evidence indicates that there have been at least a couple of
structures at this site over the centuries. Records also show that over
the course of the first century of existence functions alternated from
saw milling to grist milling. Whatever the activity, it must have been
hard work, because the property changed hands fairly frequently until it
was acquired by the Mumbower family. By that time it had become
completely devoted to the processing of grains for consumption by both
humans and livestock.
David Mumbower was the last person to operate the mill. Even though
he no longer owned the building, he reportedly continued to grind grains
up to the time of his death in 1930. See
DavidMumbowerPedigreeChart.pdf (275 KB) for what is currently known
about the Mumbower genealogy.
